Campovalano type sword. Roman republican era.
Campovalano type sword. Of Italian origin this sword model, similar to Greek Xyphos could be the type of sword used by the legions before they had adopted the Gladius Hispaniensis.
The blade is made of carbon steel, the grip and the guard is made of bone coated with steel sheet and the pommel is steel. The leaf is pistiliforme and has a midrib. The sheath is made of wood with brass trim and brass coated bone. The suspension system is through two brass rings.
Overall length 75 cms. Blade length 57 cms. Blade width 5 cm.
